Duo Simpatico, with Jack Scott on the flute and Steve Ramsdell on guitar, perform classical jazz. Both have performed individually with jazz bands as well as smaller groups in Chicago. They recently made the decision to collaborate, made a CD, and asked Ovation!Management to represent them. Their arrangements of jazz and 'pop' music are exciting and original. Trained as classical musicians they are adept at playing that genre but their 'true love' belongs to jazz.
Jack Scott– flute and alto flute. Jack has played
all sorts of duo, trio and quartet jazz jobs in and around Chicago since the early‘80s with guitarists such as Fareed Haque and Jeff
Kust. Finding the jobbing business on flute to be a
bit of an uphill grind, he decided to put this duo
project together, with the aim of having an act which
can work in jazz clubs or a concert setting, as well
as other possibilities. He is an avid fan of the alto
flute, and uses it extensively in jazz, especially on
the Brazilian pieces where it is particularly
effective. He is also a freelance calligrapher and a
well-known archaeological illustrator…and he plays the
lute. He holds a bachelors degree in philosophy and
anthropology from the University of Illinois at
Urbana. He comes from a family of musicians and has
studied music privately.
Guitarist Steve Ramsdell has been based in Chicago for
over a decade performing in a variety of musical
idioms. Original music as a leader, jazz classics
with Spider Saloff, world music with Matt Geraghty and
solo classical performances mark some of Steve’s
musical explorations. Recent highlights include
performances at the Iridium in New York, Jazz at
Pearl’s in San Francisco and Ondojazz in Lisbon.
Steve’s musical arrangements can be heard on Spider
Saloff’s CD Like Glass while original compositions
appear on the self released CD Steve Ramsdell Group.
Holding a masters degree in jazz pedagogy and a
bachelors degree in guitar performance from Northwestern University, Steve also
teaches at The College of Dupage and Wheaton College.
